This large illustrated volume presents an extensive visual archive of theatre posters produced over approximately two centuries for performances of the plays of William Shakespeare. The publication documents how graphic designers illustrators and visual artists from numerous cultural contexts translated the dramatic themes characters and narratives of the plays into striking visual communication intended for theatre audiences. Through the chronological and stylistic diversity of the collected material the book demonstrates the evolution of graphic design techniques theatrical promotion and visual interpretation within global theatre culture. The atlas-like compilation also functions as a study of visual rhetoric in performance advertising showing how imagery symbolism and typography were used to reinterpret canonical drama in different artistic traditions and historical contexts.
