Deze publicatie Pijn / La douleur / Pain werd uitgegeven naar aanleiding van de gelijknamige tentoonstelling georganiseerd door het Museum Dr. Guislain van 8 oktober 2005 t.e.m. 30 april 2006. De catalogus onderzoekt het fenomeen pijn vanuit een interdisciplinair perspectief, waarin medische, psychologische, historische en artistieke benaderingen samenkomen. De publicatie reflecteert op de manier waarop pijn wordt ervaren, verbeeld en geïnterpreteerd binnen verschillende culturele contexten. Kunstwerken en filosofische beschouwingen worden naast elkaar geplaatst om de complexe relatie tussen lichamelijke ervaring en representatie te onderzoeken. Het werk functioneert zowel als wetenschappelijke reflectie als visuele documentatie van de tentoonstelling / This publication, Pijn / La douleur / Pain, was produced to accompany the exhibition of the same name organised by the Dr Guislain Museum from 8 October 2005 to 30 April 2006. The catalogue explores the phenomenon of pain from an interdisciplinary perspective, bringing together medical, psychological, historical and artistic approaches. The publication reflects on the ways in which pain is experienced, represented and interpreted within different cultural contexts. Works of art and philosophical reflections are juxtaposed to explore the complex relationship between physical experience and representation. The work functions both as an academic reflection and as a visual documentation of the exhibition.
