"Flow of Life" is a multidisciplinary art project created by Belgian artist, poet and activist Marisa Papen in collaboration with filmmaker and artist Michael Chichi under the collective name Double Being. Over the course of thirteen lunar cycles, Papen used menstrual blood as an artistic medium to create a series of spontaneous "moon paintings". The project explores femininity, corporeality, pain, healing, spirituality and the relationship between the human body and nature. The publication documents this cycle through reproductions of the artworks, poetic writings, personal reflections and photographic records of the creative process. The content follows the evolution of the project across a complete lunar year during which menstruation is approached not as a taboo or medical burden, but as a source of ritual, observation and artistic transformation. The series of menstrual paintings forms the core of the publication and is supplemented with personal texts addressing hormonal pain, emotional processes, acupuncture, natural healing and the symbolism of blood within collective female history. The publication exists at the intersection of performance art, body art, feminist visual culture, poetry and spiritual self-reflection. The project was also adapted into an award-winning experimental short film carrying the same title. Marisa Papen (1992) is a Belgian artist, poet and activist internationally known for artistic projects addressing bodily freedom, censorship, religion and female autonomy. Her work combines performance, photography, poetry and activism while examining the relationship between the human body and systems of cultural control. Together with Michael Chichi she founded the artistic collective Double Being and the non-profit initiative Earth Family. Alongside her controversial photographic projects, she has also published poetic and spiritually inspired works focused on nature, femininity and human interconnectedness.
